When it comes to keeping employees happy, cash and better health care benefits may rule, but such unconventional benefits as flexible schedules, telecommuting, on-site day care or more personal time are quickly picking up speed. According to a recent Hudson survey, Transforming Pay Plans: 2006 Compensation and Benefits Report, a growing number of employees are more interested in having a well-balanced life. According to the findings of those surveyed:

* Offered a choice of unconventional benefits, most were interested in more-flexible work schedules (33%) or additional family benefits (22%)- including parental leaves and personal days-over supplemental insurance (16%) and job training (13%). * 42% would be happier with more money; 20% with better health care; 12% with better retirement benefits; 10% with a better work/life balance; 6% want more paid time off. * Among the 32% of employees whose employers offer an HSA, only 40% participate. Of those who don't currently participate in an employer-provided HSA, 57% don't think it's likely they will do so in the future. * Interest also was divided among those employees whose employers do not offer HSAs; 41% would participate if an HSA was offered while 39% would not.
