ARLINGTON, Va. - Four new state credit union commissioners recently had the opportunity during an orientation hosted by NASCUS, to learn about the association and have face-to-face meetings with NCUA, on Capitol Hill, and at the U.S. Treasury.

Attending the orientation on June 14 and 15 were: Judith Ripley, director, Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, Credit Union Division; John Smith, administrator, Kansas Department of Credit Unions; Cordell Lawrence, executive director, Kentucky Office of Financial Institutions; and Sandra Branson, director, Missouri Division of Credit Unions.

Among the items on the orientation agenda were individual meetings with each member of the NCUA Board; a meeting with Jonathon Gould, majority counsel, Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; and a meeting with Emil Henry, assistant secretary of the Treasury.

The four state regulators also heard from NASCUS representatives on various topics.

NASCUS has been holding the orientation sessions for new state commissioners for eight years, and the association says it typically holds one to two annually depending on the number of new commissioners.
