ARLINGTON, Va. - Four new state credit union commissionersrecently had the opportunity during an orientation hosted byNASCUS, to learn about the association and have face-to-facemeetings with NCUA, on Capitol Hill, and at the U.S. Treasury.

Attending the orientation on June 14 and 15 were: Judith Ripley,director, Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, CreditUnion Division; John Smith, administrator, Kansas Department ofCredit Unions; Cordell Lawrence, executive director, KentuckyOffice of Financial Institutions; and Sandra Branson, director,Missouri Division of Credit Unions.

Among the items on the orientation agenda were individualmeetings with each member of the NCUA Board; a meeting withJonathon Gould, majority counsel, Senate Committee on Banking,Housing and Urban Affairs; and a meeting with Emil Henry, assistantsecretary of the Treasury.

The four state regulators also heard from NASCUS representativeson various topics.

NASCUS has been holding the orientation sessions for new statecommissioners for eight years, and the association says ittypically holds one to two annually depending on the number of newcommissioners.
