DENVER – Denver Community Federal Credit Union's youth program has a new spokesman-NFL Denver Broncos Fullback Kyle Johnson.

"We're very excited about this," said Denver Community FCU Community Educator Amy Klassen. "We've had youth accounts in place, but we're hoping this will help garner more recognition for the program."

The program is designed to educate kids on the importance of sound financial management.

The credit union had an "in" with at least getting in contact with Johnson-Klassen has been friends with him for years.

"He is very vested in the community and education is something that is important to him so we knew he'd be perfect to get our younger members excited about financial literacy," said Klassen.

A Denver Bronco since 2003, Johnson will kick-off his involvement during an autograph signing session at the credit union's downtown branch on June 30. All members in attendance, including those who sign up at the event, will be entered to win a Denver Community jersey signed by Johnson.

Johnson's role in the comprehensive campaign will include not only the guest appearance, but also radio spots and print advertisements. Youth newsletters will also include Johnson's football stats card and an autograph card.

The fullback knows something about the importance and value of education-he spent his high school and college careers at the top of his class and when he's not on the football field, Johnson is studying for his MBA at Syracuse University. The partnership with Denver Community FCU is another expression of his commitment to financial literacy.

"It's critical for children to take steps towards financial literacy in the same way they take other steps in their educational processes," said Johnson.

Bringing financial literacy to youth and adults alike is an important part of the credit union's commitment to the city says Klassen.

The credit union offers on-site education programs that cover topics ranging from a basic introduction to financial services and budget management, to how to manage credit wisely and real estate and investment basics. The seminars can also be offered at off-site locations. Plans are underway to also further build the credit union's presence in more schools in the fall.
