ATLANTA – Hurricane season blew into the U.S. in early June and the Credit Union Service Corporation, the shared branching network headquartered in Atlanta, has rolled out a product to help CUs keep in contact with their members in the event of a catastrophe. The product is called Credit Union Recovery or CURe and it will allow credit unions on CUSC's Next Generation Switch to prepare in one of two ways for the possibility of a natural disaster. In the first option, the CU will forward to CUSC a positive balance file that, should it be knocked offline, will still allow tellers in acquiring shared branches to see the member's records as though the CU was still online. In the second, the CU will set up a virtual private network device at its hot spot which will participate in shared branching while the credit union's main processing computers are off line. "After witnessing first hand the amount of hardship credit unions experienced during the 2005 hurricane season, CUSC made it a priority to help ease future potential difficulties in any way possible," said Carroll Beach, President/CEO of CUSC. "We feel that with CURe credit unions can focus their energies on infrastructure repair and other issues because they know their members will be served."
