GREENVILLE, S.C. – SC Telco Federal Credit Union and Taylors, South Carolina-based Liberty Federal Credit Union have announced merger plans.

According to G. Neil Smith, chairman of the $18 million Liberty FCU, with two branches serving over 3,900 members the time was right to merge and provide members long-term stability and expanded services.

SC Telco FCU President/CEO Steve Harkins adds that the merger will be beneficial for both credit unions.

"This partnership will give our credit union a combined 119 years of experience serving credit union members. This alliance will also bring new products and services to current Liberty members as well as give them three additional branches in the Upstate and two others statewide," said Harkins. "SC Telco's current membership will gain two extra branches in the process, one in Taylors and one in Liberty. Combining our memberships, staff and branches will be beneficial for everyone."

The merger is slated to be completed by June 30, 2006.

SC Telco currently operates five full-service branches, serves over 27,000 members and has $121 million in assets.
