The May 10th edition contained an article on ATMs and listed the credit unions with the most ATMs. The number of ATMs isn’t necessarily the whole story. My calculations show that State Employees CU of N.C. had one ATM for every $15 million dollars in assets. Services Center FCU and our partner Vermillion FCU have a total of nine ATMs and combined assets of over $30 million. Thus, we have one ATM for each $3,430,000 in assets. If State had the same ATM-to-asset ratio they would have 3,765 ATMs. It is worth noting that Actors FCU on the list has a ratio of one ATM to just $488,900. That is an impressive ratio. I am not trying to take the wind out of State’s sails, but sometimes numbers can tell only part of the story. David J. Wright CEO Services Center Federal Credit Union Yankton, S.D.
