WESTBROOK, Maine – The Maine Credit Union League's 68th Annual Meeting was held in conjunction with the Maine Credit Union Movement's annual awards.

Robert Curtis of Bowdoinham Federal Credit Union was awarded the Alexander Ferguson Award for Outstanding Credit Union Volunteer, which recognized his leadership and participation in the credit union's growth and for being the "glue that binds the credit union's volunteers." He has served on the board for the past 20 years and has been chair for the past decade.

Winning the James M. Gratto Award for Outstanding Credit Union Manager was president/CEO of Seaboard Federal Credit Union, Kyle Casburn. He received the award for helping the credit union grow from $43 million in assets to $78 million since he joined the CU 11 years ago. Betty Chabot was given the Jeannette G. Morin Award for Outstanding Credit Union Employee. This executive vice president at Maine Highlands FCU was recognized as someone who "brings the true meaning of the credit union philosophy of `people helping people' to life everyday and for being a wonderful teacher and mentor to other staff members." The league President's Award for Outstanding League Volunteer went to Ralph Ferland, president/CEO of EMMC Federal Credit Union and chair of the Maine CU League's board. He was commended for "his commitment to a strong credit union system in Maine and working to achieve this in any way he can." Honored for "leading by example when it comes to community-service," was Judy Griffin, president/CEO of Alliance of Maine FCU, who took home the Diane L. Oceretko "People Helping People" Award. The award recognizes Griffin for "making an impact in her community everyday." The first couple to receive the Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman's Award were Ed and Cate Pineau of Pineau Policy Associates of Manchester. The Pineaus, who represent Maine's credit unions on a daily basis in Augusta, were honored for "providing guidance to Maine's credit unions on issues of interest and for representing and supporting credit unions at various campaign events, various other political activities and going above and beyond in so many other ways." Nominees for the Maine awards were submitted by credit unions, with the final winners determined by the League's Awards and Convention Committee.
