BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood recently addressed NAFCU's 25th Annual Volunteers Conference on issues of importance to this crowd, including development and succession planning.

Hood commended the time and effort credit union volunteers put in. "Volunteers generously give their time, energy, and expertise to serve an important cause, often times at a significant sacrifice," he said. "Credit unions embody the spirit of volunteerism and it is symbolized in those who voluntarily provide leadership to their boards."

The vice chairman emphasized that the safety and soundness of credit unions "depends upon maintaining healthy continuity of leadership on their volunteer boards. I encourage all credit union board officers to make the development of future volunteer leadership a key priority of their service." Development and succession planning were key elements of his remarks.

After NAFCU's conference, Hood heard specifically about California credit unions from Department of Financial Institutions Deputy Commissioner of Credit Unions Elizabeth Dooley. "She illustrated how California credit unions are doing an excellent job providing their members with business lending services, and I encourage credit unions across America to observe their example and emphasize these services as well," Hood said. "She and I share a common enthusiasm for credit unions, and I look forward to strengthening NCUA's relationship with state regulators in California and across the nation." He also visited with a number of credit unions while in California.
