ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Huron River Area Credit Union turned up the heat on its financial literacy efforts during Youth Week.
All of the participants were able to benefit with activities including shopping at the credit union Money-Mart, where children between the ages of 2 and 7 learn the value of money and how to count and spend it wisely.
"It's Your Money," another activity, allowed children ages eight to 13 to experience the real world of money where they were given a pretend budget including a job title and income with taxes immediately taken back from them. Upon proceeding to the next station, they were given bills to pay and then would ultimately end at the "Money Manager" of their credit union where they were paid interest upon depositing their paycheck. As a reward for depositing their money, they were able to spend their interest earned at the "Money-Mart" store to purchase small prizes.
