SAN FRANCISCO – At its 33rd Annual Conference held in San Francisco, the Education Credit Union Council, Inc. elected its new board.
Steve Dahlstrom, president/CEO of Spokane Teachers Credit Union in Spokane, Wash., was elected president of the Council's board.
In 1978, Dahlstrom joined the credit union industry at Missoula Federal Credit Union. After two years, he moved to Spokane and accepted the position of senior vice president at STCU. He held that position until 1991, when he was named CEO. Under his leadership STCU has grown in assets from $20 million in 1980, to more than $760 million, making STCU the largest CU in Eastern Washington.

In addition to serving as president of the Education Credit Union Council, Dahlstrom currently serves as chair of the Financial Services Centers Cooperative Inc. board of directors; treasurer of the Eastern Washington University Foundation board of directors; chair of the Spokane Workforce Development Council; member of the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture board; and a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Washington CU League. Dahlstrom is also the president of CU Alliance Inc. and Credit Union Support Services, both of which serve Spokane and the credit union community. Other elected board members for the Education Credit Union Council include: Tony Budet, vice president; Eva Gaudio, secretary; and Truman Baird, treasurer. Also serving as Council board members are: Edward Enyedy, Lynn Huether and Jim Mattson.
The Education Credit Union Council, Inc. is a national association of credit unions that include "educational communities" within their fields of membership. Membership is open to any credit union that has member education as a central tenet of its mission and serves students, teachers, support staff and their families.
