NEWPORT, Calif. – Once again Honda Federal Credit Union CEO and RMJ Foundation board member Jim Updike and a credit union crew have sailed the seas to raise funds for financial education.
Updike and the CU crew consisting of Chris Gunnare, Matt Flynn, and Brian Scott from The Members Group; Todd Lane and Tim Sidley from WesCorp; and Bill Enslin from Creditor's Insurance participated in the LEXUS Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race.
The annual 125-mile competition attracts more entries than any other international yacht race. This year there were over 500 boats but only one staffed by an all-credit union crew.

The CU team with Updike as captain, Lane, Scott, Gunnare and Flynn manning the cockpit and trimming sails; and Enslin and Sidley at the foredeck, set sail at 1 pm April 28 and finished the race some 38 hours later. Dolphins accompanied the team for part of the race and with light and variable winds toward the end of the race it took the collaboration of the cockpit crew to keep the boat moving to the finish.
All funds raised will benefit the RMJ Foundation, which promotes credit union education and financial literacy.
