CAMPBELL RIVER, British Columbia – When it comes to being an entrepreneur, Coastal Community Credit Union recently proved one can never be too young to learn about writing a business plan, conducting market research and creating a sellable product. The Canadian credit union recently sponsored the PowerPlay Young Entrepreneur program, now in its fourth year. Fifth and sixth graders from local schools participate in the six-week business-training program, which culminates with a Young Entrepreneur Show – a market fair where students set up shop and sell their products to other students, their families and the community. “Coastal Community Credit Union is pleased to be involved with a program that offers so much to the community,” said Dean Rathwell, CCCU vice president. “Students gain important life skills and experience successes that will support them throughout their lives.” The reaction to the program has been so successful that CCCU said it will provide funding to bring the program to more schools.
