SAN DIEGO – USE Credit Union President and CEO Linda Baughman resigned from her position April 11 in a move that came as a surprise to the remaining leadership of the $768 million credit union, said USE CU Assistant Vice President Kevin Moyle. Credit union officials aren't budging from their official statement that Baughman left "to pursue other interests," although Moyle did say he is not aware of what those interests are, or where Baughman went – suspicious behavior for such a high-profile industry leader. "Apparently, she had been discussing this with the board for some time. It wasn't related to the credit union's financial position at all, it was just related to her wanting to pursue other interests," Moyle said. The credit union spokesman referred to 2005 financials that showed the credit union experienced a decrease in profitability from the previous year, but nothing out of line compared to the industry as a whole. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Harris was named Acting President and CEO. In the April 24 issue, Harris told the San Diego Business Journal he is interested in pursuing the job on a permanent basis.
