WASHINGTON – Shortly after SBA Administrator Hector Barreto announced his plans to resign from the agency, President Bush nominated Steven Preston to take over the helm. Preston currently serves as executive vice president of strategic services at The ServiceMaster Co. The firm provides lawn care and landscape maintenance, termite and pest control, plumbing, heating and air conditioning maintenance and repair, appliance maintenance and repair to homes and businesses through a network of more than 5,500 company-owned locations and franchised licenses. Preston previously served as the company's executive vice president and chief financial officer and prior to that, was senior vice president and treasurer of First Data Corp. Earlier in his career, he was a senior vice president in investment banking at Lehman Brothers. The Senate must confirm Bush's nomination. “We believe that Steve is an excellent candidate for leading the Small Business Administration,” said Jonathan Ward, chairman and CEO of ServiceMaster. “His work at ServiceMaster has proven that he is a visionary leader with a record of accomplishments and a deep appreciation of small businesses.” Preston has been with ServiceMaster since 1997.
