DFCU Financial had a vision and a dream to build an already successful organization into a stronger, fuller and more capable financial institution. It is a rare commodity to find industrious leaders with the ability and resources that can make those dreams a reality. It sickens me that in the past several days and weeks, to witness that dream and opportunity for multiplicity in community growth be deliberately destroyed. Now that the expansion/conversion plans of DFCU Financial have been completely twisted out of shape by the notorious treachery of the NCUA, I am sure that a select group is celebrating the derailing of this highly successful team of executives at one of the largest and one of the best-run credit unions in the country. They see this as a victory? A victory for whom? Who won and who lost? So caught up in bias political rivalry as they are, they must know deep within their self-absorbed minds, that the members lost, the state of Michigan lost, the over 400 employees of DFCU lost.and so did the entire community! The potential for countless additional jobs alone makes this senseless campaign to ruin a great organization’s aspirations staggering to say the least. With all the finger-pointing from the NCUA and ballooning that DFCU execs were motivated solely upon money as the reason they were submitting an application to become a bank, it is glaringly obvious who was really worried about the all-mighty dollar! The truth of the matter is in reality, it did boil down to money and fees didn’t it? DFCU becoming a community bank here in Michigan would have taken enormous fees away from the league and from the NCUA. Let’s finally call it as it really is. In the end, let’s not forget who really did loose in this battle. And for those of you who supported the NCUA, couldn’t you find anything in the world more worthy spending your time and energy on outside of tearing down a creditable plan to improve the opportunities of countless people within this community? Why not look for reasons to help things work, instead of destroying noble ambitions? Are you that terrified of change? The real shame is that an infinitesimal minority was able to wag the dog in this pathetic political maneuver. Gary (name unknown) Clarkston, Mich.
