RALEIGH, N.C. – State Employees’ Credit Union has helped area children realize what a difference a penny can make by helping out with the 2nd Annual Kids Day Penny Jar Championship. The event will benefit the WakeMed Children’s Center, which offers a comprehensive range of health care services tailored to accommodate children and their families. The donations received from this year’s event will go toward the purchase of a pediatric transport unit – an Intensive Care unit on wheels. SECU provided two Fat Cat Coin Sorters at the event to count and store over $10,000 in coin contributions, doubling last year’s collection efforts. Also on hand at the event was Fat Cat, SECU’s youth mascot, who gave hugs to the hundreds of children lining up to drop off their change. “State Employees Credit Union recently announced its intent to place a Fat Cat Coin Sorter in each of its nearly 200 branches. While the no-fee coin sorters benefit SECU’s membership on a daily basis, the credit union is also strongly committed to helping North Carolina civic organizations by counting coins that may be collected in their fundraisers. The money saved through the use of SECU’s Coin Sorters can help these organizations make even more of a financial difference in North Carolina,” said SECU Education Services Department Senior Vice President Leigh Brady.
