DULUTH, Ga. – A recent merger between Georgia Federal Credit Union and University Employees Federal Credit Union aims to double the locations and resources currently available to the University of Georgia community in Athens. The merger became effective March 31 and joins $7 million University Employees and its 3,000 members with $388 million Georgia Federal and its 77,000 members. “We are extremely excited about partnering with GFCU. The faculty, staff and students of the University of Georgia will now have more online services and additional financial choices and benefits,” said Tom Cochran, manager of University Employees. Georgia Federal has a branch location and ATM in Athens as well as multiple branch locations across the state. It is also a member of the nationwide CU Service Center network offering hundreds of locations across the country. “GFCU is pleased to have the University Employees Federal Credit Union as a part of the state’s largest educators’ credit union,” said Warren Butler, president/CEO. “We also look forward to being even more active in the Athens community as a result of this partnership.”
