WASHINGTON-Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. `got `r' done' for the Children's Miracle Network. Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc., chaired by Northwest Federal Credit Union CEO Juri Valdov, presented Children's Miracle Network with a giant check for $515 million in a ceremony March 30, exceeding their half-a-million-dollar goal; that figure was expected to go up some once the group arrived at a final tally. Many credit union notables participated in the event, including NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson and Vice Chairman Rodney Hood, CUNA CEO Dan Mica and NAFCU CEO Fred Becker. Additionally, racing legend Bill Rodgers and race coordinator Phil Stewart spoke. "We tried to put this thing together for a couple of reasons: first for the children and, second, for making a difference in the community," Credit Union Miracle Day Chairman Juri Valdov, CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union and CUNA chairman, said. Chris Young, a CMN patient, discussed how the organization has helped him over his 17 operations for problems relating to his spina bifida during his brief 10 years. He told the crowd of credit union and hospital officials that when he goes into surgery, he says, "OK, boys and girls, let's just get `r' done!" Prior to the press event, the credit union officials decorated piggy banks that were auctioned off during the live auction the next night. (See related story.
