MADISON, Wis. – Former adviser to President Bush and White House staffer Todd Buchholz will provide credit union professionals with insight on how to compete in today’s economy during the 12th annual CUNA Chief Financial Officers Council Conference and Roundtable. The conference will take place May 21-24 in Palm Springs, Calif. Buchholz is an economics teacher at Harvard and former White House director of economic policy who has appeared on CNBC, ABC News, PBS’ Nightly Business Report, CBS and CNN. At the CFO Council Conference, he will explain how credit unions can survive and thrive in the economy and what Congress can do to help or hurt the industry in the upcoming year. Former NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar will present “An Insider’s Perspective of the Credit Union Movement at a Crossroads” during the May 24 general session. Dollar, who is principal partner of Dollar Associates, LLC, in Birmingham, Ala., will explain the six strategic choices credit union leaders must make correctly to be successful in the next decade with a special insight on the trends and challenges in today’s marketplace that make these decisions so critical. Five- and 10-year members of the CUNA CFO Council will be honored at a special luncheon on May 22. In addition, the conference will also include a number of general sessions, breakout sessions on a number of topics including the impact of the economy and consumer trends on the credit union business model, legislative and regulatory update, core deposit behavior and value, giving financial presentations for a credit union’s board, strategies to increase and decrease interest rate risk, and the changing role of IT in financial services.
