USA Federal Credit Union, San Diego, in partnership with the Armed Forces Financial Network, has donated $1,000 to the Fisher House at Naval Medical Center. The donation will be used for gift cards redeemable at any Department of Defense commissary for military families staying at the Fisher House. The Fisher House offers housing to military families during hospitalization of loved ones at major military and Veterans Administration medical centers worldwide. CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union employees participated in the annual Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake. The CU, based in Harrisonburg, Va., raised a total of $1,145, which they donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County. Mid-Cities Schools Credit Union, Compton, Calif., donated 200 pairs of shoes to St. Bernard Unified School, Chalmette, La., for children who lost their belongings when Hurricane Katrina hit last summer. Teachers from the school will hand out the boxes to children in need. Each box contains a pair of shoes, a t-shirt and a note from the CU. The credit union was able to raise the money to purchase the shoes through a collaborative effort of its board, staff, members, vendors and various community organizations. Staff members of SunCorp Corporate Credit Union assisted Habitat for Humanity on a housing project for people in need. The employees from the regional office and corporate headquarters helped the Flatirons chapter of Habitat on duplexes being built in Broomfield. They aided in clearing two foundations that had been poured and assisted with siding on one of the duplexes. Habitat is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter. T&C Federal Credit Union, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., raised $20,120.14 for this year’s OLHSA’s 16th Annual Walk For Warmth. Money was raised by 90% of T&C staff through pledges, raffles, and selling baked goods, pins, candy and stuffed bears. Nearly 25% of the CU’s staff volunteered their time to walk and assist with the event. All the proceeds raised will go toward helping heat the homes of families in need throughout Oakland County.
