ST. LOUIS - The African-American Credit Union Coalitioncontinues to assist small credit unions still recovering fromHurricane Katrina. So far, the group has raised more than $37,000in grant money to provide equipment and other items to impactedcredit unions. AACUC's mentorship committee has used the grantmoney to send personnel from other credit unions to help with arange of immediate needs including organizing loan files to helpinglocate members. Since shortly after the hurricanes struck lastyear, the AACUC has also been working closely with the NationalFederation of Community Development Credit Unions and the LouisianaCredit Union League to help more than a dozen credit unions withless than $20 million in assets get back in operational mode. TheAACUC said it will consider requests from hurricane-impactedsmaller credit unions that have an intact, motivated board, afunctioning core of employees and a functioning location, even ifit's at another credit union.
