Many thanks to Paul Gentile for his March 1 column, “Where have all the Chatfields Gone?” which focused on my four decades working to ensure that credit unions have the opportunity to help their members improve their financial lives. While there may not be as many of us who “came up through the ranks”, as Gentile put it, I’m encouraged by the dedication of current and emerging credit union leaders, and their resolve to maintain the credit union charter that is so critical to the future of America’s consumers. I’m also proud that those emerging leaders include a couple of “Chatfields” -our son Mark, a credit union professional in Texas (now with CUNA Mutual Group) and our daughter Danielle, a credit union executive in Ohio – not all the Chatfields have gone! While not without its challenges, the credit union system is in good hands and a fine publication like Credit Union Times should never have to change its name or focus on a different audience. Keep up the good work. Dave (almost retired) Chatfield President/CEO California and Nevada CU Leagues Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
