DULUTH, Ga.-NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood visited with a group of Georgia credit unions last month to glean more about their service to those of modest means. Hood stopped in Gwinnett Federal Credit Union where staff informed him of special outreach programs, such as service to the Bosnian population, financial training seminars, and Credit-Able, a statewide loan guarantee program that enables the credit union to offer competitive financing to the disabled community for assistive technology. "We are always bumping into opportunities to do the right thing," Gwinnett Federal Credit Union President and CEO Marshall Boutwell commented. The vice chairman was also filled in on the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates' work with the Georgia-Polish People-to-People Partnership, a collaboration formed in 1995 to establish cooperation for the benefit of the credit union movements in Poland and Georgia. GCUA President and CEO Mike Mercer introduced Hood to the CU GROW campaign, an initiative that connects participating credit unions with financial literacy training resources and helps consumers fulfill their service needs through the GettingAhead Association. The GettingAhead Association, which includes credit unions, works to lower cost of living for Georgians. As a final stop, Hood visited Georgia Federal Credit Union and learned about its extensive financial literacy program.
