PASADENA, Calif. – Wescom Credit Union, through its WeCare Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Wescom employees to help people in need through volunteerism and donations, has selected four new Southern California charities it will support in 2006. This year' s charity recipients include The House Ear Institute's Children's Auditory Research and Evaluation Center; Canine Companions; Hope House; and Free Arts for Abused Children. In addition, WeCare will continue to support The Unforgettables Foundation in 2006, which is an organization that helps low-income families defray children's funeral expenses. In 2005, WeCare donated more than $87,500 to other organizations such as its $2,500 donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief, in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami as well as a $10,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity assisting the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Also, Wescom employee participation in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, March of Dimes, AIDS Walk L.A. and Children's Hospital of Orange County sponsored walks accounted for more than $21,000 in donations. "The WeCare foundation continues to make a difference in people's lives in the communities in which we serve," said Wescom CU President/CEO Darren Williams. "We are proud of our employees who help through volunteerism and donations and I know we will continue to do so in 2006."
