WASHINGTON – Mountain America Credit Union continues to be the top-performing CU 7(a) lender in the nation, according to SBA. The $1.5 billion CU approved 297 7(a) loans in 2005 totaling more than $11 million as of Sept. 30, 2005. The SBA recently requested $17.5 billion for the 7(a) program as it goes into its fiscal year 2007, the third year at a zero subsidy. As in FY 2005 and FY 2006, the 7(a) loan guarantee program will be sustained by "modest fees" paid by lenders and borrowers and will not be subsidized by an appropriation, the agency said. There are now 273 CUs participating in the flagship loan program. The following is a listing of CUs that made 7(a) loans in 2005. The CUs are ranked by number of loans approved.
