MidWest Financial Credit Union and UMHS Financial Credit Union, Ann Arbor, Mich., have donated shoes to help some 116 local children in need through its Shoes That Fit program. In addition to asking members for donations, the credit union partnered with Clear Channel and University of Michigan Health System to make the program a success. Shoes That Fit is a program to help area children who, for a variety of reasons, do not have proper fitting shoes. Area schools helped identify children in need. Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union, Miramar, has treated four teenage foster children from SOS Children's Village in Coconut Creek to a Jason Mraz concert. As a corporate sponsor of the Mizner Park Amphitheater the credit union donated seats in their box, and promoter Fantasma Productions, treated the teenagers, aged 15-18, to pizza and refreshments. SOS Children's Village is a private provider of foster care services for children ages 14 and up. Numerica Credit Union, Spokane, Wash., has raised over $8,500 for Spokane Valley's Hutton Settlement, a family-oriented residential facility for non-delinquent children who are in need of a healthy living environment. Fund-raising activities included live and silent auctions, raffles, and bake sales. Numerica employees and family members made most of the items donated for auction or raffle. Others were donated by area businesses: TriGeo Network Security, Moss Adams, Teres Solutions, South West Business Corporation, and Maloney & O'Neil. Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., has raised over $80,000 for the Pikes Peak United Way's 2005 campaign. Some 67 employees visited several organizations supported by the United Way such as the Marian House Soup Kitchen, children's nurseries and Silver Key Senior Services. To meet their campaign goals, Ent sponsored an employee barbecue, bake sales, "Entbay" raffles for a variety of gifts and prizes, a traveling "Happy Trails" trail mix bar and a senior management breakfast, where members of the management team served breakfast to the staff. United Community Credit Union, Galena Park, Texas, has donated 12 computers to Woodland Acres Elementary School. The Galena Park ISD elementary school was devastated by theft. Over the past year, United Community has been collecting computer equipment that it no longer uses, with the hopes of donating it to a local charity. Upon learning of the situation at Woodland Acres Elementary, staffers didn't hesitate to offer a helping hand. Credit Union of Ohio, Columbus, has donated $3,000 to Adventures for Wish Kids (AFWK). AFWK helps the children and families by providing opportunities to support each other emotionally, to escape from the worry of their illness for a short time and to enjoy life in a more meaningful way. The credit union's donation will go toward providing adventures for the kids, plus their parents and siblings, to places like COSI, Columbus Zoo or King's Island. New York State Credit Union League, Latham, N.Y., has collected a number of large boxes filled with nonperishable food items, along with cash donations, over a weeklong period to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. Since 1982, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York has been working to alleviate hunger by providing food to soup kitchens, food pantries, emergency shelters, senior programs, and day care centers – distributing more than 19 million pounds of food a year to more than 1000 charitable agencies in 23 counties in northeastern New York.
