ARLINGTON, Va. – At press time, there has come news of another card breach, this time involving personal identification numbers. According to several credit union sources, a merchant has apparently lost card data from the magnetic stripe and including personal identification number data as well. One credit union reported being notified of 3,000 cards compromised and said that it would likely retain the card numbers and re-issue the plastics with new expiration dates. Another credit union reported being warned by Visa not to reveal the name of the merchant who had the card breach or face possible litigation for doing so.
