BURLINGTON, Vt. – Following a Valentine's Day tradition now several years old but with a new "more focused" twist, state lawmakers received a sweet Valentine's message from the Vermont Credit Union League in the form of a heart-shaped chocolate lollipop This year, said Joe Bergeron, president/CEO of the league, each Lake Champlain lollipop is folded in a paper wrapper proudly proclaiming credit unions as a "sweet deal for Vermont consumers" with each wrapper listing the names of all CUs in the state plus a graphic showing 42% of Vermont residents are CU members. One bullet point on the wrapper identifies CUs as "not-for-profit, volunteer governed, democratically organized, community focused, socially responsible, and locally owned-by-members financial cooperatives." Another invites lawmakers to a March 16 get-together in the capitol where the league is hosting an exhibit table.
