I really appreciated editor-in-chief Paul Gentile’s Feb. 1 column entitled “Who Needs Banks Anyway?” and I have begun a review of our vendors to determine which vendors are credit union friendly. For a very long time now I have wondered if I was doing all that is possible to counteract the bank attacks and Gentile’s solution is so simple and makes so much sense. Since beginning my inquiries of our vendors I am finding out some interesting facts that will help us decide which vendors get our business in the future. I have also contacted the Wisconsin Credit Union League to find out whether they would work with us in the process to steer credit unions away from doing business with nonfriendly banks. For legal reasons, they have declined to take a step in this direction. Maybe in time we can impress this viewpoint upon the credit union industry and in turn make the bankers feel the pain of their actions. Keep up the good work Paul!
