WASHINGTON – Anne Cochran, CEO of the Louisiana Credit Union League, Charles Elliott, CEO of the Mississippi Credit Union Association and Guy Hood, CEO of the Florida Credit Union League will all be honored by the National Credit Union Foundation for their efforts to help their credit unions recover from the series of devastating hurricanes that hit the U.S. Gulf region in 2004 and 2005. “The National Credit Union Foundation is honored to recognize Anne, Charles and Guy for their relentless efforts to help hurricane survivors rebuild their lives,” said NCUF Executive Director Steve Delfin. “To scores of credit unions, thousands of credit union employees and hundreds of thousands of credit union members, these courageous heroes have served as anchors holding the Gulf Coast credit union movement together.” The three leaders will be recognized with NCUF's Anchor Award, which will be presented at the Herb Wegner Awards Dinner on Feb. 26 in Washington D.C. As credit union employees in Louisiana and Mississippi were struggling to survive, Cochran and Elliott worked day and night to ensure that their members had access to safe food, water, and shelter. Though suffering themselves from their own personal losses, Cochran and Elliott devoted every ounce of their energy to helping others, the NCUF said. The NCUF recognized Hood in addition for his work to help establish criteria for disbursing disaster relief funds and to channel those funds from the national foundation to the states where credit union employees suffered the most devastating losses. “Words cannot express the tragedies that Gulf Coast credit union people are still facing in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina,” Delfin observed. “But we hope these Anchor Awards in some small way bring comfort in recognizing all the challenges these leaders have overcome and all the people they have inspired.”
