Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union, Northfield, N.J., has sponsored a Bowl-A-Thon to help feed the hungry in the area. Over $3,100 was collected to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Top pledge collectors included James Shepherd, Ruth Agbowu and Al Cavileer. The donation brings the credit union's three-year total to the charity to over $10,000. LBS Financial Credit Union, Cerritos, Calif., has co-hosted a blood drive providing the local Red Cross with enough blood to help the lives of 90 people. The blood drives were held at separate locations and some 60 community participants gave blood during the two-day drive. BMI Federal Credit Union, Columbus, Ohio has helped host an annual Kids'n Kamp party by donated over 2,100 cookies for the event. Each year, Kids'n Kamp has a party to celebrate children fighting cancer. Kids'n Kamp is devoted to the social, educational and emotional needs of children with cancer. By providing family activities, tutoring, counseling and support opportunities, the Kids'n Kamp network touches the lives of more than 350 children and their families each year. Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., has donated two toddler play structures to Children's Hospital Central California. Acquisition of the play structures was made possible by a donation from the Credit Union to the Easter Seals Child Development Center. The new "Toddler Town" structures enable children to have an indoor play area at the hospital. UW Credit Union, Madison, Wis., has made an $80,000 commitment to sponsor a Habitat house built by the UW-Madison Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter during 2006-2007. The gift also includes sponsorship of the Chapter's 2006 Souper Bowl fundraising event. Last year, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County announced an ambitious effort to raise $3.5 million to build 60 homes within the next five years. The support of companies such as the UW Credit Union has allowed Habitat for Humanity to exceed its campaign goal. Habitat has built over 100 homes in Dane County since 1987. Pinellas Federal Credit Union, St. Petersburg, Fla., staffers have donated their time to participate for the first time as a sponsor at the SPCA Tampa Bay's Annual Paws on Parade. Both human and animal walkers participated in the event. Walkers collected donations prior to the event to raise money for the SPCA and 100% of the $185,000 collected will go to providing food, shelter, and medical care for homeless pets. Nationwide between 8 and 12 million dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are euthanized annually in shelters due to the lack of a home. In the Tampa Bay area alone over 80,000 pets are brought to shelters each year. Catholic Federal Credit Union, Saginaw, Mich., Community Relations Committee recently donated $16,000 to area organizations. The Community Relations Committee consists of volunteer members who research local tax exempt, non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations that provide food, shelter, counseling, and other miscellaneous humanitarian needs. Once the research is completed, the Committee decides on the monetary amount to give the organization. The committee was formed in 1990 and since then has donated approximately $204,975 in all.
