SPRINGFIELD, Va. – With a new name and a new charter, Vantria Federal Credit Union says it has no limits on how it defines itself. Vantria FCU recently changed its name from Genesis Federal Credit Union. The new moniker comes with the $82 million CU’s recent charter expansion that now includes Fairfax County in Virginia. “It is important to point out that this name change was completely market-driven and voluntary,” said Patricia Malatesta, president/CEO. Malatesta said the name was created by the CU and “because it is unique, was free of any trademark infringement potential, and it has no meaning, this gives us free reign to define ourselves however we choose, without any preconceived meanings associated with our name.” In 1950, Vantria was founded as Cameron Station FCU to serve the military and Department of Defense employees working on Cameron Station Army Post in Alexandria. It changed its name to Genesis FCU after applying for a community charter when the base closed. Vantria serves nearly 12,000 members.
