Mc LEAN, Va. – Credit unions involved in auto lending that compete against dealerships’ financing offers should consider the following: The latest annual Dealership Internet Survey from the National Automotive Dealers Association shows 94% of U.S. franchised new and light truck dealers have Web sites. What’s more, most of the Web sites offered by new car dealerships allow car shoppers to view inventory and MSRPs and fill out finance forms, as well as schedule sales and service appointments. The number of dealerships with Web sites, says NADA, has increased from 47% in 1997. In addition, 98% of dealer Web sites are interactive, and 64% of those dealers with a Web site have completed a sale on the Internet. NADA Chief Economist Paul Taylor said the survey results confirm that new car dealers recognize the value of the Internet and have fully embraced it as a tool to serve their customers.
