WASHINGTON-NAFCU/PAC has been fined $1,000 by the FederalElection Commission for a filing violation. NAFCU/PAC paid a civilpenalty of $1,000 to the FEC for an inadvertent error by NAFCU/PACTreasurer Murray Chanow, NAFCU's director of political affairs, inits end of year report covering post-election 2004. The amended FECreport states that NAFCU/PAC received $56,887.53 in unitemizedcontributions; the erroneous report stated only $255. Under theagreement reached through the FEC's Alternative Dispute Resolutionprogram, NAFCU will also have two staffers, including Chanow,attend an FEC seminar for political action committees within oneyear. Chanow commented, “It's $1,000 we raised from our members andit's $1,000 we can't give out.” He added that the penalty is prettyconsistent with those for other similar infractions.
