WASHINGTON – The University of Texas at Austin may be the national collegiate football champion but its recent Rose Bowl opponent, the University of Southern California, may have beaten them indirectly. The Associated Press ranked Texas first in the nation in college football while USC came in second. Conversely, the $688 million University Federal Credit Union, which serves the University of Texas, is the number two student loan CU lender in the nation while $242 million USC Credit Union is ranked number one, according to Callahan & Associates, Inc. The ironies were pointed out by Callahan President Chip Filson at a Jan. 6 Trendwatch Webinar co-sponsored by the firm. Another layer to this is Dwight Johnston, vice president, economic and market research at San Dimas, Calif.-based WesCorp, and a Texas alum. Johnston provided a 2006 economic forecast during the Webinar. Texas defeated USC 41-38. The 2006 Rose Bowl Game National Championship went on to earn the highest-rated Rose Bowl Game in 20 years. -
