Allegacy Federal Credit Union, Greensboro, N.C., has raised $23,456 for multiple sclerosis during the Tour to Tanglewood event. The Tour is a two-day, 100-mile bike ride. Tour officials noted that this year’s event was by far the most successful ever, raising more than a million dollars. A total of 36 riders combined to raise funds for Team Allegacy this year. In 2004, the 21 cyclists who rode for Team Allegacy raised more than $18,000. Team Allegacy has been riding in the Tour to Tanglewood for five years. North State Telco Credit Union, High Point, N.C. has collected more than 1,000 pounds of food for a local food bank. The credit union participated in the food drive, which was sponsored by the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Chapter at High Point University. The fraternity coordinated the community food drive, which benefited the Father’s Hand Ministry in High Point. T&C Federal Credit Union, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., has sponsored the Chief Delphi Robotics Team #47 from Pontiac Central High School. T&C gave $250 to help support the team and their activities. Chief Delphi is a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Program that is designed to encourage students to further their education and to consider a career in math, science, or engineering. Southeast Financial Federal Credit Union, Nashville, Tenn., has hosted the “Scramble for Disaster Relief” golf tournament. Foursomes comprised of private individuals and local businesspeople who donated $500 to play and $100 to sponsor a hole. A silent auction of donated items was held immediately following the tournament. All the proceeds generated by the event were donated directly to evacuees of the recent hurricanes and their families through Southeast Financial’s Disaster Relief Fund. American Heritage Federal Credit Union, Philadelphia, has donated $50,000 to the Children’s Seashore House of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The American Heritage staff also spent the morning with the children, singing songs, playing instruments, and listening to music. The Children’s Seashore House is a regional teaching hospital offering specialized care and rehabilitation to children with developmental disabilities or chronic illnesses. The $50,000 donation continued the credit union’s on-going support of the hospital’s Music Therapy Program. Missoula Federal Credit Union, Mont., has given a local food drive a boost. MFCU staffers donated $550, which was used to purchase 1,000 pounds of turkey representing 76 individual turkeys, 44 cans of vegetables and 10 boxes of stuffing. The donated birds amounted to 13% of the total raised by the drive. A total of 566 turkeys were donated to local food pantries.
