WASHINGTON-Ted Koppel, former anchor of Nightline, has joined the list of speakers to address CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference. Koppel, who recently retired from his anchor job, is a 42-year veteran of ABC news and has won every major broadcasting award, including 37 Emmys, six George Foster Peabody Awards, 10 duPont-Columbia Awards, and two Sigma Delta Chi Awards, the highest honor bestowed for public service by the Society of Professional Journalists. The Philadelphia Inquirer described him as “frequently a beacon of responsibility in a frequently irresponsible medium.” The Wall Street Journal has called Koppel “the undisputed reigning lion of tough TV interview journalism.” CUNA had already confirmed U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Michael Oxley (R-Ohio), and Congressmen Ed Royce (R-Calif.) and Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.), co-authors of the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act, to participate. Additional GAC speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.
