GAITHERSBURG, Md. – Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union has recently sponsored a silent auction during the "Alliance of Credit Unions" meeting early this fall. This group of credit unions, formerly known as LICU Plus (League of IBM Credit Unions), meets twice a year. Traditionally a silent auction is held during the semi-annual meeting to benefit a charitable cause but this year Mid-Atlantic FCU chose to raise money for Hurricane Katrina Relief. Mid-Atlantic FCU raised a total of $9,511 for the National Credit Union Foundation's Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The National Credit Union Foundation started its National Disaster Relief Fund to provide a channel for assistance from the credit union system to support disaster relief and reconstruction in the affected areas. Individual credit unions and state credit union leagues have been collecting and forwarding donations to the NCUF to help with Hurricane relief.
