WASHINGTON- CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica was the subject of a full-page profile in the Dec. 20 edition of The Examiner (Washington, D.C.). The article covered everything from Mica's first days at CUNA which were marked with the failed and then successful sale of CUNA's for-profit credit card division and the AT&T lawsuit up through the bank attacks the trade association is dealing with today. He was the first person outside the industry to sit in the trade association's corner office. He is also CUNA's longest serving chief at nearly 10 years and said the thing that keeps him working for credit unions is that they really are the "white hats" of the financial services sector. "They absolutely, without a doubt, will help millions and millions of people every year with some basic financials needs and goals," The Examiner quoted Mica as saying. The feature went into Mica's days in Congress and what it's like having a brother who is a congressman of the opposite political party. Mica also discussed the tax-exemption, documentation of credit union service to the underserved, and other daily hot topics for credit unions. Just two months ago, The Examiner profiled American Bankers Association President and CEO Edward Yingling, but also has recently highlighted such Washington figures as PBS's Jim Lehrer, political commentator Mark Plotkin, Madeleine Albright, and Ted Koppel.
