RALEIGH, N.C. -State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is helping its handicapped members get around town through a new loan program for handicapped accessible vehicles (HAVs). Seeing an increased demand for financing vehicles equipped to assist handicapped members, SECU’s board approved guidelines to help lending staffers meet their needs. Interest rates and terms will be the same as SECU’s standard vehicle loan programs. New HAVs may be financed for up to 72 months and used HAVs can be financed from 48-60 months based on the age of the vehicle. The cost of equipping a new or used vehicle to accommodate the needs of the handicapped typically ranges from $15,000 to $20,000. “SECU prides itself on being proactive in responding to member needs. The handicapped accessible vehicle program is an excellent example of this commitment,” said SECU Senior Vice-President of Loan Administration Phil Greer.
