WOBURN, Mass. – By now everyone is well aware of how image exchange will change how items are processed at the branch level and by the item processor. EasCorp says it is looking beyond just the branch applications and sees benefits of image exchange for places like kiosks and even businesses. "As we see it, as Check 21 develops and as these technologies develop there are going to be multiple channels through which credit unions are going to want to collect these checks electronically. We see it moving out to these kiosk-like ATM machines and further out into business applications," said George Dow, assistant vice president of member relations for EasCorp. Last month EasCorp worked with Hanscom FCU in Bedford, Mass. in enabling its new kiosk in its JFK Federal Building branch in Boston to send electronic cash letters to EasCorp. It leverages EasCorp's internally-developed Ease-Link branch capture solution along with Ensenta's kiosk software, to transmit the imaged cash letter. "One major benefit is the credit unions don't have to have a physical human being service this machine every day. Traditionally it would require someone to go to that machine to pull those checks out," said Dow. He also noted that the longer the checks are not processed, it introduces risk factors. Image exchange of th cash letter also expedites funds availability for members Taking this remote application of image exchange a step further, Dow said he envisions a day when business accounts, instead of doing their check deposits at a local credit union branch, will have some type of scanning device in their offices that will capture checks directly at their location.
