HARBOR, Ore. – Chetco Federal Credit Union has taken home the Community Credit Union of the Year award by the National Association of Community Credit Unions (NACCU). The award recognizes a community credit union best exemplifying the principles of the credit union movement while serving as a positive influence in their community. Entries were judged based on each applicant's capacity to impact and succeed with membership services, financial services, and community efforts. Chetco FCU was singled out for its history of community involvement, recent product and branch development, and impressive market penetration. Noteworthy examples include working with two Native American tribes to offer complete financial services to both; serving a community where over 20% of the population is at or below the poverty line; and a service to combat payday lenders – CU on Payday. "Community credit unions are truly dedicated to improving the lives of their members and the areas they call home," said NACCU Chair Marc Schaefer. "The outstanding achievements by Chetco, combined with their long-standing commitment to their community, exemplify the credit union difference."
