LANSING, Mich. - Members and employees of State Employees Credit Union made contributions to the SECU Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund totaling $20,304, which SECU matched, for a combined total of $40,608. Funds collected were divided between two programs: the American Red Cross and the National Credit Union Foundation. SECU also contributed an additional $80,000 to the NCUF. "We were truly moved by the response of our members and employees to help the victims dealing with the devastation caused by the hurricane," said SECU President/CEO Steve Winninger. "Even our youngest members made inspiring contributions to the cause." For example Kendall, a young SECU member and fifth grader at Bath Elementary School, distributed coffee cans to area businesses that read, "Got Change? You can help make a change. These funds are being collected for the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund." Kendall's canisters were found in party stores, pharmacies, pizza places and ice cream parlors around Bath and DeWitt. The 11-year old raised $600, which she proudly brought to SECU to match.
