ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA Board Member Rodney Hood, in opening remarks at his first NCUA Board meeting last week, stated his interest in and commitment to credit unions and NCUA. "I am delighted to serve as a NCUA Board Member, and I look forward to working with all of you in fulfilling my duties and responsibilities," Hood said. He also thanked the agency for the prep work done to aid his Senate confirmation hearing. "Hats off to you for your diligence and professionalism." He continued, "As we all embark upon our new working relationship, I would like for you all to know that I am committed to listening carefully, working hard, and doing my level best to ensure the safety and soundness of the nation's federally insured credit unions." Hood commented on his "profound appreciation for community empowerment" developed as a missionary in Africa when he was younger. "From that experience, I recognize that strong, struggling people are at the heart of what any country is about and I am pleased to be in a position where I can oversee the institutions that give hardworking people access to capital. By working with all of you, I am convinced that we can continue to help families achieve the American dream of homeownership; we can assist entrepreneurs in creating small, viable businesses; and we can provide the trusted mechanisms for families to save for the future. As I survey the current political and business climate, I can truly say that there has never been a more exciting time to become a part of the credit union industry." [email protected]
