INDIANAPOLIS – Twenty more representatives from Indiana credit unions who might otherwise not have been able to attend CUNA's 2006 GAC will have the opportunity to attend the annual conference thanks to $35,000 in assistance the Indiana Credit Union League has made available through its Servicecorp operation. The League said the monetary assistance is focused on those who have never attended the annual conference and Capitol Hill visits which are a major component of the GAC. An amount of $1,750 will be disbursed to selected credit unions and will cover one person's costs including conference registration, airfare, hotel, meals and travel expenses. Indiana League-affiliated CUs can submit one name. Selection will be based on various criteria including political involvement, financial need and whether the person has attended the GAC before. The Indiana Credit Union Foundation also offers a scholarship that covers expenses for the recipient to attend the GAC. Political involvement by credit union representatives has never been more important than it is right now, said League President John McKenzie. "Our League and Servicecorp had a great year and we want to share the success with our affiliates, similar to the way credit unions share their successes with their members. The GAC is a premiere conference and we are pleased to be in a position to underwrite the cost of attendance for as many as 20 first-time attendees."
