JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Farmers Union Credit Union, which opened only last May, has won a $50,000 grant from the National Credit Union Foundation to help its start-up efforts as it seeks to serve rural farm families across the state. "We are pleased and honored to be the recipient of this NCUF grant, which has helped develop small credit unions and bolster economic activity," said Steve Burdic president of MFUCU, which represents the first new CU charter in the state in seven years. MFUCU, with three offices in Missouri, including Jefferson City, Mountain View and Paris, currently has "just under $1 million in assets," said a spokesman. The CU was founded by the Missouri Farmers Union to bolster economically-depressed rural communities, many of which have become bankless in recent years following bank mergers and branch closings.
