WOODBURY, Minn. – Postal Credit Union (PCU) members, employees and volunteer board members have recently joined forces to donate $8,861 to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. PCU collected $3,861 in donations during the month of September as part of its ongoing "Casual for a Cause" program. Of that amount, $3,310 was donated to the American Red Cross and $551 to the Salvation Army. Each month, PCU highlights a local charity and employees who contribute can dress in casual attire on Fridays. Members are also encouraged to donate. An additional $5,000 donation was authorized by the PCU board of directors and given to the Salvation Army to help in its relief efforts. PCU also continues to raise money for hurricane victims by donating part of its Visa credit card income earned between September 1 and December 31 to the American Red Cross. Every time PCU credit card holders use their cards this season, they will help raise even more money. "Helping people in need is what credit unions do best," said PCU President Russ Plunkett. "Fundraising efforts like this exemplify the credit union philosophy in action. By pooling our resources, our members, volunteer board and employees are in a better position to help those in need. We thank everyone for their generosity."
