WASHINGTON – Despite ostensibly being an “education and advocacy group” formed to help credit unions preserve their ability to change their charters to those of mutual banks, materials prepared by the Coalition for Credit Union Charter Options are being used by a leading charter change consultant to sell credit union leaders on the idea of changing their institution's charters. A link from charter change consultant Alan Theriault's CU Financial Services page takes visitors straight to the CCUCO's Straight Answers document which provides the advocates of charter change's response to 20 questions about the controversial charter move. When contacted about the link, CCUCO membership director Marv Umholtz said he didn't see any conflict arising from having the materials of an educational organization being used to sell a charter change consultant's services. “It doesn't appear unseemly to me,” Umholtz said. CU Financial Services references the document in a prominent link from its home page.
