DULUTH, Ga. – Georgia credit unions are getting a boost on statewide public radio thanks to a special program now on 58 stations arranged by Georgia Credit Union Affiliates. The program, called "Georgia Focus" and carried on the Georgia News Network, reaches 800,000 listeners and highlights CU membership and services, said the League. "We've already received lots of calls from the program which meshed well with International Credit Union Day," said Kelly Garmon, vice president-communications and public relations at GCUA. Featured on the 30-minute program are interviews with Michael Mercer (below right), president/CEO of GCUA, and Brian Akin, president/CEO of North Georgia CU. Conducting the interviews is show host Rob Maynard (below left). The show's appearance on radio coincides with a Georgia cooperative TV advertising campaign which features the tagline, "Georgia Credit Unions . . . You'll Like Us Better." In the Maynard interview, Mercer, the GCUA CEO, discusses basic CU information and the benefits of membership. In addition to discussing cooperative structure, Mercer details products and services offered by CUs and how CUs serve communities. Likewise, Akin provides an overview of his credit union, which serves corporations and government entities in Stephens and Franklin Counties. The League said the combination of radio and TV messaging provides a layering effect designed to raise consumer awareness.
